my father, don, is a teacher and a poet. when one of his poems was published in simple vows, he invited me to illustrate it. i did. lots of time passed before the journal was published though. i became embarassed of my first illustration. so, i redrew it. this is the second version. and this is his poem:

The old man
sits in the sun
on a stool
with his back
against a stone wall
and his feet
in the red dirt

In his own world
illumined by a sun
no night can darken
uttering words
no ears can hear
